WHOIS privacy protection

Domain ownership details can be looked up publicly. WHOIS privacy helps keep your personal contact information out of those results, where the extension allows it.

What you get

Hide personal details

Keep your contact details out of public WHOIS results.

Less spam

Fewer people can collect your address and phone number from WHOIS.

Fewer scams

Fake renewal notices and phishing are harder to aim at you.

Easy to manage

Turn it on or off from your domain page in the portal.

What is WHOIS?

WHOIS is a public lookup that can show who registered a domain, along with contact details. It helps with technical and legal issues, but it has also been a common source of contact details for spammers.

With privacy turned on, your own details are hidden from those public results where the extension supports it.

What privacy does not change

You remain the legal owner of your domain, and you still receive important notices about it. Privacy does not hide your website, and it does not replace good account security.

Some extensions, including some country-code domains, have their own rules and may not support privacy. Contact us to check before you rely on it.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Privacy only changes what is shown publicly. Your ownership stays the same.

No. Availability depends on the extension and its registry. Ask us about the extension you are using.

If your domain is registered with personal contact details, privacy is usually a good idea. A business may prefer to publish a dedicated business address instead.
