What is DNS?

DNS is the internet's address book. When someone types your domain, DNS tells their browser which server to visit and tells other mail servers where to deliver your email.

You rarely need to change it, but you do when you move your website, connect a new email service or verify your domain with another provider.

DNS records or nameservers?

Nameservers decide which company answers DNS questions for your domain. DNS records are the individual answers. Change your nameservers to hand control to another provider, or change records to adjust a single setting.

Changes are not instant. Depending on the TTL (the time a record may be cached) and on your nameservers, an update can take from minutes to a few hours to spread.

How it works

  1. 1

Open your client portal and choose your domain.

  2. 2

    Open DNS records

Go to the DNS records tab to see the current settings.

  3. 3

    Add or change

Choose the record type, then enter the host, value and TTL.

  4. 4

    Wait for it to spread

Allow some time for the change to reach the whole internet.
